The day unfolded through <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">a keynote lecture, thematic tables<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">, year-specific workshops, and a closing dialogue, each offering something different to those who took part. Third-year candidates <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">met with representatives from the University&#8217;s International Research Office to discuss postdoctoral funding and academic opportunities across Europe.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">For many participants, these sessions offered not only practical guidance but also the chance to step back and reframe their own research paths. As one first-year PhD student, Sarah Schmidt<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">, reflected: <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Learning more about the different research paradigms and being able to apply different perspectives on my personal research project was not only helpful but also very inspiring. It was great hearing the opinions of different professors.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">That sense of momentum carried throughout the day. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Silvia Stocco<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">, one of the organizing committee members, remarked: &#8221; <\/span><\/span><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-600\" src=\"https:\/\/educationphd.fisppa.unipd.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/IMG_8531.heic\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">It was really satisfying to see how well the sessions connected with one another. You could feel ideas building throughout the day, even across different formats.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The day closed with a session chaired by <\/span><\/span><\/span><b><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Prof. Raffaghelli<\/span><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">, in conversation with <\/span><\/span><\/span><b><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Prof. Daniele Morselli <\/span><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">(University of Bolzano). Drawing on his own academic path\u2014spanning <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Italy, the United States, and Finland\u2014Prof. Morselli offered a grounded view of life after the PhD. Rather than offering a roadmap, he spoke with candor about adaptation, openness, and the value of taking intellectual risks across borders. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><i><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u201cAcademic mobility is a transformative force,\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> he said. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><i><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u201cFrom Helsinki to Ohio, each context has reshaped my thinking, enriched my teaching, and deepened my belief that true innovation in education emerges at the intersection of cultures.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Reflecting on the day, Prof. Juliana Raffaghelli shared: <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u201cIt was a huge pleasure to team up with an efficient and enthusiastic group of PhD researchers who, through their questions, drove me to focus on a main, relevant question for us as supervisors and teachers: How can we provide support to their development as talented young people into successful academics? We shared beautiful sessions where we explored what it takes to build an academic career\u2014not just in terms of research, but also logistics, project management, relationships, networking, and international opportunities.
